Chapter 21: Battle Trial (1)

Chapter 21: Battle Trial (1)

~Third POV~

[Next Day, U.A. High School, Class 1-A, Japan]

After teasing them the previous day, Ren wasn't too surprised when Tsuyu and Ochaco ignored him. They returned his greeting when he called out to them but made no attempt to come over to his seat when he dropped his stuff.

Instead, they say together in the front row, Uraraka borrowing Ida's seat as the two conversed without him as he thought in a calm tone, 'I figured my teasing seemed to be a bit much… doesn't help my social skills hasn't improved much only crippling me to Toga, and a few friends in Naruhata.'

Because people ignored him, he almost sneered at the thought of the previous people in his school. They ignored him discriminating against him at the time being Quirkless but all of a sudden he passed UA having a Quirk changed that.

However, he had to calm down as he inhaled and exhaled checking up on his phone during this free time. Toga within the class talked to him about some topics with their usual friendly conversation about Quirks or other topics.

They both texted their friends in Naruhata about how they were doing and Nejire about some questions about himself or his class texting for a while till the bell rang. Which prompted them to get ready for class soon.

*DING*

With the morning bell sounding Aizawa entered the classroom looking like a man who hadn't slept in weeks. This sentiment was reinforced when he stepped up to the Classrom's podium, his expression and tone tinged with exhaustion as he said, "Good, everyone's here. We'll be receiving a new student today. Try and get along."

As Mineta was not present, Aizawa mentioning that everyone was present caused a few students to gulp at the news. Fortunately, though no one celebrated as a new person entered the room making Ren smile and recognizing him using [Observe] on him.

[Hitoshi Shinso Lv.5 UA Student

Description: Hitoshi Shinso is a student at U.A. High School, attending Class 1-C of the Department of General Education before being transferred into Class 1-A of the school's Hero Course replacing Mineta for his perverted behavior. Shinso is both happy and nervous to finally have a chance to shine with his Quirk [Brainwashing].]

Following inside the classroom was a much taller boy with messy indigo hair and half-lidded, seemingly exhausted eyes raised his hand and said in a stoic tone, "Hi. My name is Hitoshi Shinso. I was previously in Classroom 1-C of the General Studies Department. Due to your classmate… personality it seems I'll be a member of the Hero Department from now on."

Noticing Ren's empty seat next to him he sighed taking a seat that once belonged to Mineta to Shinso. Taking his seat Aizawa got on with homeroom, providing an overview of UA's facilities and explaining who to contact if they were having trouble at home or with UA's admittedly taxing curriculum.

Once the formalities were out of the way, he pulled out his sleeping bag and gave everyone free time until their first period of state-mandated classes, English Studies. With everyone having free time Ren was the first to greet his acquaintance in a calm tone, "Nice to meet you Shinso. I'm Ren Yuki how are you fitting in with the class?"

Hearing this, the class listened, seeing the two interact as he spoke in a stoic tone, eyeing him weirdly, "Hello, Yuki-kun. Didn't expect to be suddenly selected to be in the Hero Course just the next day. Otherwise, everything is fine. But weren't you the guy that cleaned the beach from the trash?"

Gesturing to his attempt to clean the trash of the Beach Park, Ren nodded his head as he shrugged his shoulders, explaining himself in a cool tone, "Yup. I merely did it as training practice to gain some muscle and help the environment. Certainly, helps that no police around for me to practice my Quirks in peace with everyone avoiding it at the time."

Shinso merely smirked, laughing lightly, causing Ren to raise an eyebrow at his acquaintance sitting next to him in a stoic tone, "Haha! Yuki-kun, you must have been so lucky to be blessed with an awesome Quirk in your whole life."

But to his and everyone's surprise, he bluntly responded to his prior status of being Quirkless a year ago, "Meh. Not really. I was Quirkless for the last 14 years. It was only just recently, a year ago, that I manifested one. A late bloomer."

This made Shinso blink a bit surprised as he muttered, knowing about his classmate in a surprised tone, "Really now? Well, that sounds like an interesting tale. Anything else I should know about this class?"

Listening to their conversation, everyone except Aizawa sweatdrops hearing the conversation. And being kids, their curiosity is peaked listening to the number 1 student on the scoreboard tale.

When free time was over the classes finally resumed normally. Though UA was the number one School of Heroics, the first half of the day was set aside for general studies such as Math, English, Japanese, and Art History.

After that students of the Department of Heroics would have an hour for lunch before attending classes that would prepare them to become heroes, a seemingly random mix of theoretical and practical lessons colloquially referred to as Foundational Hero Studies…

[U.A. High School, Lunch Rush, Japan]

After an exceptionally boring first half of the day, most of the guys from Class 1-A were seated together in the cafeteria Lunch Rush. This included Shinso and Ren as Kirishima spoke in a surprised tone, "Man I can't believe Mineta was kicked out of the Hero Course just like that…"

Despite Mineta only staying a little bit it was still unnerving for a person previously ranked in their class to be gone just like that. Pushing his glasses Ida retorted in a strict tone, "Minoru Mineta's expulsion from the Hero Course is the consequences of his actions. It would harm UA's illustrious reputation if such a person didn't put his all to the test."

The boys nodded as Mineta was busy looking at the girls perversely during the Quirk Apprehension Test with Denki speaking up in a curious tone with a sly grin, "Let's forget about Mineta. What I want to know about Ren is how he managed to get 3 girls home with him. On the first day of school!! Come on, tell us your secrets man."

Adopting a somewhat wry smile Ren replied in a sheepish tone rubbing the back of his head his answer, "To be perfectly honest, I'm just as surprised as you are. Perhaps is just my charming personality. But then again, all the girls in our class are cute."

Shinso chuckled hearing that as he responded stoically, "Sure. That personality of yours Ren-chan is charming."

He rolled his eyes at Shinos's remarks as Ida asked in a curious tone about the dynamic between the two, "If you pardon me for asking it seemed you two seemed to know each other. Are you both perhaps friends?"

Both blinked when they heard Ida's question, and they looked at each other. They ultimately shrugged as they both responded stoically, "Meh. We're just acquaintances who happened to meet no more no less."

Both had tick marks hearing their exact responses. Denki grew a bit curious about this, wanting to hear some gossip, and curiously asked, "Oh? Then I want to know when you said you were a Qurikless dude. Then, did you manifest your Quirk only a year ago?"

Hearing that question from Denki, Ren responded with a shrug, nodding his head, admitting to such a fact, "Pretty much. I didn't even know I could change my Quirk in the registry and everyone before didn't help me much because of my former status. The only true friends are those in Naruhata, Izuku, Toga, Neijire, and a few others."

The boys grew curious as they were a bit surprised to hear his words Ren added with a smug grin, "It also didn't help that Toga was popular in our previous school and living at her home. But otherwise, not a bad life if I say so myself living with Miss Vampire."

Showing his phone proving his words hanging out with Toga in the picture Denki spoke surprised, "Whoa! That's the cutie from our class and you live with her!! Damn, you're lucky bastard!!"

Clenching his fist overdramatically, Eijiro blinked, seeing Shinso's response as he asked bluntly, "Wait, I still don't get why you say this chick is a vampire. Does it have something to do with her Quirk?"

Ren sighed as he rubbed the back of his head he explained in a stoic tone as he continued eating, "Sigh… it's because of her attraction to blood, thanks to her Quirk. Let's just say her folks weren't exactly the best people, and she looked like she was gonna pounce on someone for blood. Long story short, I helped her urges before getting her help. She just happened to need to eat a lot of iron in her diet when we asked for a friend to see a doctor. Since then, I was her blood bank for a time when I was Quirkless."

This brought immediate attention hearing his words being Quirkless. Genuinely curious Ida asked curiously knowing the possible answer, "It's rare for someone to awaken their Quirk so late. If you don't mind my asking, what exactly is the nature of your ability Ren-san."

All were listening intently as Bakugo eyed him angrily as Ren sighed explaining himself in a calm tone to the boys, "To be honest, I'm still familiarizing myself with its capabilities. I've only had a year, so there's a lot I don't understand. For the most part, it allows me to grow stronger enhance my physical attributes, and permanently copy a Quirk but I need time to adapt to the changes as I can't copy endlessly on the fly."

Blinking in surprised Bakugo scoffed muttering thief to himself as Shinso questioned a bit stunned, "Does that mean you're even stronger and faster than yesterday?"

Shaking his head Ren clarified in a calm tone to the boys as he continued eating his lunch peacefully, "Maybe? I'm not exactly sure what my limits are. But from what I do know, my body can tell when it's ready to copy another Quirk or my bodily functions. Otherwise, that's all I know about my Quirk's functions. It's still a work in progress for me."

The boys all nodded, agreeing that learning one's own Quirk is important in understanding their capabilities. Even Shinso was a bit surprised that his classmate only had a year with his Quirk while his Quirk [Brainwashing] was something he at least knew his capabilities for years.

With the boys talking, they soon began to finish their lunches before heading over to their next subject in class. Although Ren was excited that he finally moved on to the Battle Trial portion of the day.

Witnessing them leave, he spotted the girls of Class 1-A as he thought with a light shrug, heading towards Momo's direction in a curious tone, thinking to himself, 'I always did wonder how useful Momo's Quirk [Creation] is. Might as well ask seeing that's one of the Quirks I need to copy along with [High Spec] in the future.'
