Climbing the Fortress.

The boat landed, and the pirates and British soldiers readied themselves for a battle to take over the fort that had just begun.

Edward grabbed an axe on his back, a gun and a sword within its sheath and jumped off the ship on the fort's platform alongside his comrades and the Brittania's soldiers.

"Charge."

On his order, the entire group rushed at the incoming army of soldiers trying to defend their castle.

The fort had an open area. The idea was to kill the captain of the defence and use his flare to make the soldiers surrender. The soldiers planned to make a diversion as Edward went ahead for the captain.

From afar, it was clear that the room was located on the topmost floor and not profoundly hidden inside the fort, a sign door embedded with five stared banner gave it away.

They ran at the enemy hoard of swords crushing their way through the enemy, leaving behind a few soldiers at every turn to hold the enemy off.

Edward moved ahead of everybody, killing anybody who blocked his path without hesitation. The plan went along; the lower front was in control, and small fights favour the attacking side.

The soldiers on the upper floors were readying themselves for an enemy attack, and Edward knew he had to advance long and hard towards the goal.

They continued so and so, attacking move the barricades, running through a violent gun charge and killing skilled soldiers to make their way forward. Reaching the top of the tower, only Edward was left to capture the enemy captain.

He stood behind a wall 30 meters away from the captain's room, 2 men were guarding the door, and there were no signs of any sharpshooters or gun slinger guarding the room.

Edward held his gun in his hand and rushed from the side with his as silent as someone humanly could, hiding his presence. His left-hand bore a weapon which would him here.

"what-"

Edward shot a guard right in the face and jumped off his body, pulling his arm and bringing out a small blade from his wrist cloth,

"A-"

He pierced the other guard's chest and aimed straight for the heart. Breaking through his rib cage, Edward slammed the body into the wall.

"Well, that was easy.!?!!"

A shot pierced right through the door, barely missing Edward. He jumped off the side as the door was shot again and again.

"Oi, calm down, remember for family or something. You going to die anyway. Breaking the door, why firing bullets costs your kingdom more money."

Edward brought out a small smoke bomb from a leg pocket and threw it into the room after lighting it.

He rushed into the room and took cover behind the table; his vision in smoke was still better than many people.

He reloaded his gun and waited for the smoke to clear, but something ticked him off.

"No coughing."

In the smoke, there was no noise from the man that should be inside the room. It was dead silent, as if no one was in the room.

"!!!"

The sound of a shattering window surprised Edward. He did not move an inch. It could have been a trap to bring him out.

"Why the hell is a glass window here? Isn't this room right beside the hill?"

The rain had caused the air to be heavy, and the smoke cleared out faster than expected; Edward gave a short peak from the side of the table and -

"- He's dead."

Out there lay a dead body with its blood-filled clothes. Edward saw the dress, recognised the uniform, and confirmed it was the chief officer.

He inspected the corpse and found the reason for the man's death.

"An attack right at the heart. It must be their work."

He rushed to the window and saw nothing there besides trees and rocks, which were faster than he had calculated.

"Anyways, I need to fire this flare, right?."

Edward looked at the drawers and found a flare inside them,

"There is a red one inside these, and the rest are green. I am lucky they missed that one."

Edward got out of the room and fired the flare signalling the successful capture of the fort.

The soldier enjoyed as the victory was achieved relatively early, but the damage wasn't minor, 2 British and 1 of Edwards's ships were destroyed, and with them were lost hundreds of men.

Afterwards, while checking the overall loss and checking on the injured, Edward spotted something peculiar.

"Hey what is the chest your carrying?"

"It's all the silver and gold, we've been able to get from the port, we are under orders to bring this back to Britannia."

"Damn, straight to the point. Huh."

"We need not lie."

"Ok, I'll get to the point too. All this goes to our ships. I'll talk it out with your king. So, bring it my ships."

A soldier got angry at Edward's casual authoritative tone and confronted him.

"You're no one to give us orders."

Edward gave an intent look and had a smirk on his face,

"I have sent three large battleships to our land and won you a fort that your stupid navy didn't have a chance against. My existence is the only reason why you live right now."

Edward's words harsh words humbled the soldier, and he stepped aside.

"Ok, now carry this to my ship."

Edward didn't fear anybody, not death, because his life would get the most thrill out of it.

That's why he was doing everything that could bring him the most entertainment. After all, he had nothing to lose, he had already lost everything he loved to the war.
