Chapter 24 Trials and Tribulations

Arriving at school, rumors spread that Lei and I had been killed in the car accident. Everyone was surprised when they saw that we were both alive.

As I walked through the school passage with Maka and Lei, it was as if the passage cleared. All the students pushed their backs against the locker as if we were all contagious.

I had not spoken to Maka since her last incident of discovering that my blood was an asset to her. I just happened to bump into them at the entrance.

As I walked through, Mia came running up to me. Hugging me, Jiang and his friends stood there with their arms folded, watching me, "look at the nerd.

He got a catch, and soon she will be mine."

I heard this remark while carrying my red backpack over my shoulder.

Kids were whispering amongst eachother about the tattoo on my neck. Some found it excellent, and others demonic.

Maka made it evident that she did not like Mia. She pushed her arm under Lei as they took a right. Jiang had stepped up in front of me with his arms folded, chest pushed forward, "new catch, asshole?"

I frowned. If these idiots knew who I was, they would not dare to insult me like that. I laughed as Mia looked over at me, letting out a frown.

She knew what I was capable of and also never questioned my intentions. Instead, she frowned and smiled, "and you, cutie, what are you doing with this looser?"

Mia looked up at me, then looked at Jiang, moved closer inches from her lips placed her hands on his shoulder. He arrogantly floated, "see, I told you sluts come cheap."

He was about to put his hand on her shoulder when she kicked him in the balls, and everyone jumped back with this sudden reaction. He leaned over, holding his balls.

She kicked him through the face with her knee, spilling blood pouring on the floor like an open tap. In shock, he reacted, "you bitch."

He was about to slap her, but she grabbed his hand, twisting it, "that's not nice of you to hit women," she screamed as his friends attempted to grab her.

Lei stepped into the passage, and they saw him. They stepped back, and the kids talked, whispering that Mia was Lei's sister.

"What is going on here?" Jiang pushed himself up.

There was nothing like waiting for your prey to come to you.

Maka glanced over at Mia, "is this necessary?" She snapped.

Mia smirked and glanced at me, taking my hand, "let's go.

We are going to be late for class."

Maka became angry. She has not only been insulted but also humiliated. Maka looked over at Lei, "thanks alot."

"There is nothing I can do."

Maka sarcastically smiled, "sure, there isn't."

The bell rang, and the hallway cleared.

They had left for their classes. Mia was conservative when entering the class, as if nothing had happened.

Her classmates immediately knew who she was, and they were silent. Mia took Maka's seat next to me. The new substitute teacher, Mr. Chan, entered with a brown briefcase and a red suit.

He was more dressed up to go to a ballroom. He had short black hair, small dark eyes, and a scar on the left side of his face. His appearance seemed dodgy to me, and he had a bear tattoo on his hand.

"I am Mr. Chan. I will be taking care of this class over the next few weeks, so can you each stand up and introduce yourself to me?

He started from the back as each student formally introduced themselves. Five minutes later, Maka entered with Lei. "The two of you stand in that corner," he pointed.

Maka frowned, "excuse me?"

"I said to stand over there. Latecomers will be punished."

Lei never said anything and walked over to the corner as requested. Maka rolled her eyes and followed him.

That's when Maka noticed Mia was sitting in her seat. She walked up to Mia, "what are you doing? I said to stand in the corner," Mr. Chan barked.

Maka ignored him, took Mia's bag, and tossed it across the room.

Mia was calm as she leaned back. After seeing what Mia was capable of, Maka had the guts to do what she did, unless she was Lei's sister and they were rivals or maybe sisters.

"Get out of my class," Mr. Chan snapped, aggressively clenched his fist, and slammed it into the table.

That's when I noticed something. As he gritted his teeth, his heartbeat was unusual, and his scent was different, which I had not smelled before. He glanced at me as if he had noticed I picked up an unusual scent.

Mr. Chan inhaled, taking a deep breath, then walked towards Maka, who was looking down at me with anger.

The anger I had not seen before. She was furious and looked as if she was ready to rip my head off. "If you touch him, you are digging a grave for yourself," Mia whispered as she hissed, her eyes turning dark.

No one noticed the door open as Mr. Chan turned around, and Maka turned around. He turned around, and as he turned, I noticed a star on his neck, "more bloody latecomers, what happened to your face?"

It was Jiang and four of his friends who had entered the class. He looked at Mia, "Young man, I am talking to you."

He grabbed Jiang and another one of his friends by the collar, "I am going to make an example of you today."

The door pushed open, and two men in black stepped in, the one holding open the door and the other with his hands in front of him, standing like a bodyguard, "who the hell might you be?"

He stepped forward, letting go of the boys.

Jiang's dad walked through the door and snapped his fingers as the guards closed the door. He was furious, "who the hell gave you the right to come in here as you please?"

Jiang's dad wore a grey suit and a pair of shades, telling by his shiny bald head he had a long day even though the day had just started.

Jiang stood aside as his dad ignored Mr. Chan's outburst. "Who done this to my son" he paced back and forth, removing his jacket and wearing a grey waistcoat Jacket with his sleeves rolled up.

He looked at the guards, "seems like these clowns won't talk."

He looked over at Lei, "it's you ain't it? Grab him."

Mr. Chan stood before Lei, "you won't dare lay a hand on this kid during my class. He is in my care, and who the hell are you."

Jiang's dad snapped his fingers, and another two guards dragged the principal in, all bruised and bloody.

He was breathing heavily as he coughed. The guard grabbed the principal by his hair, raising his head, pointing to Chan, "who employed this asshole?"

The principal, who was severely beaten, coughed out, "I did. Mr. Chan, you are relieved of your duties. Please leave my school immediately," he coughed out blood.

Mr. Chan looked up, and that's when I saw it. Mr. Chan was not Mr. Chan. He was sent here for a reason, "he is not leaving that easy. Mr. Chan here dares to insult me, questioning me.

We will teach him a lesson he won't ever forget."

"Please spare him. He's a nobody, just a substitute."

"A substitute? With this much arrogance, he should be taught a lesson.

When a dog doesn't know his place, we remind him that he is just a dog and we are holding the leash. I want you to make an example of this man in front of these pupils today. No one insults or messes with my family."

Lei couldn't help but burst out laughing. Jiang stood there surprised. Lei insulted his dad with his four armed guards.

What did he have a death wish? "You piece of shit, you dare to laugh. Bring him to me."

Jiang's dad pulled out his knuckle buster and placed it over his fingers. These were just ordinary knuckle busters.

It has stiff, sharp points to them, "please spare him. He is mentally not okay. He has had a psychological problem ever since the accident."

Maka started to laugh out loud. The kids were drowning.

These two had a death wish, "and I take it this nutcracker also has a mental problem."

He punched the principal in the face, the spikes of the knuckle buster tearing through his flesh, spilling blood.

The principal fell to the ground, immediately unconscious. I felt sorry for the principal, had he not been such an ass, but I can't blow my cover, but I won't let anything happen to Maka. If I have to turn these assholes into ashes, I will, but not yet.

The guards grabbed Mr. Chan under the arms and couldn't get him to move. He was pulling them back.

Mr. Chan glanced over at me. Jiang's dad was facing Mr. Chan as he adjusted the knuckle busters, "what's taking you idiots so long."

He turned around and saw the guards struggling, and he ordered the other guards to get Mr. Chan on his knees in front of him.
