"What are you, exactly?"
In the mysterious space, Madam Web sat high on a chair, looking down. Below the chair stood '94 Spider and Gwen.
When Gwen exposed her spider totem aura and her identity as Spider-Woman, Madam Web pulled her into this space.
Beside her, '94 Spider felt the erratic beats of his spider sense.
He looked at Gwen, puzzled and astonished. Gwen pressed on her hand, donned her Spider-Woman costume, revealing her identity, while calmly surveying her surroundings.
All of this was within her and Mark's expectations.
'94 Spider exclaimed, "You, you're also a Spider-Man!"
"Hmm," Gwen raised her hand, then looked at Madam Web.
Madam Web carefully examined Gwen and said, "Your existence doesn't seem to surprise me. Who are you? Another Spider-Man from a different world? But you're not Peter Parker..."
"No one ever said only Peter Parker can be Spider-Man," Gwen shook her head, saying, "I'm Gwen Stacy, or you can call me Spider-Woman."
"Gwen Stacy," Madam Web repeated the name, realizing she had no recollection of it. However, she distinctly felt a familiar spider aura from Gwen—the kind of calm and lawful spider aura!
This brought joy to Madam Web, though she remained composed, staring at Gwen. She asked, "So, Spider-Woman, why have you come to this world?"
"I think I can tell you that," Mark's voice rang out.
Simultaneously, his figure materialized from illusion to reality, appearing next to Gwen. Gwen happily took his hand.
'94 Spider looked at him in surprise, understanding the mysterious and unpredictable nature of Madam Web.
But he didn't expect Mark to have the ability follow even into Madam Web's domain.
"You!" Madam Web displayed a surprised and somewhat fearful expression, unable to speak as she stared at Mark.
Her abilities leaned toward support and guidance and lacked combat strength. She had stayed in this concealed space connecting many Spider-Verses
Her space was entirely independent of the outside world. Theoretically, nothing could invade it.
In such a situation, this was the first time it had ever happened.
Mark smiled faintly, "Hello, Madam Web. May I ask if "He" could come out for a meeting?"
"He?" Madam Web, sensing no malice from Mark, relaxed slightly, asking in confusion.
Then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she stared at Mark in shock, "You actually know him?!"
Mark pretended to smile mysteriously.
But in reality, he wasn't as relaxed as he appeared.
On the contrary, he felt a bit anxious now.
Voluntarily exposing himself was a risky move.
It meant he needed to face Madam Web and possibly even The Beyonder!
Madam Web was manageable, just an old lady with some special abilities, posing no substantial threat.
But The Beyonder was different.
He possessed the ability to manipulate time, group teleportation, and even the power to restore destroyed multiverses!
He basically has the power of what humanity thought their Gods would have.
However, before this, Mark thought The Beyonder shouldn't exist.
Because if The Beyonder was indeed so powerful, why would he be recorded in comic works by "ordinary people" in his world?
But now, Madam Web's words seemed to imply that "he" truly existed!
Mark felt an internal panic but maintained a calm demeanor, saying, "I wonder if you could allow that esteemed person to join us for a discussion. There's a major crisis involving the multiverse, and I'd like to consult with him."
"Multiverse?" Madam Web narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing Mark with a discerning gaze. "But you haven't answered my question: who are you?"
Mark extended his left hand, and to the astonishment of '94 Spider, nano particles continuously emerged, covering the left half of his body.
Then, with a swift motion, he shot out a strand of web.
"I am also a Spider-Man, a Spacetime Spider-Man."
"Spacetime? So, coming to this world is your ability?" Madam Web said.
Mark nodded.
"Then, what is this multiverse crisis you mentioned?" Madam Web asked.
Mark explained, "I'm not talking about the imminent slaughter of Spider-Men in this world. Instead, I refer to a family that thrives by hunting Spider-Men across various universes, treating them as prey."
'94 Spider, still processing the news of Mark being a Spider-Man, widened his eyes again, "What? There are people specifically hunting Spider-Men?"
Mark nodded, "Their hunting activities have been ongoing for centuries! Every member of that family holds the blood debt of thousands of Spider-Men and their allies. And such a fate will one day befall you and me. That's why I came to this world—to find you and Madam Web."
Upon hearing Mark's words, Madam Web's face displayed astonishment.
At this moment, her face gradually twisted, and an expression of pain began to grow.
"Ah, ah—"
Madam Web's sudden scream shocked Mark, Gwen, and '94 Spider.
As Mark was about to approach to check, Madam Web suddenly woke up.
Her aged face turned slightly pale, with a hint of unhidden fear.
"It's true! It's really true!"
Mark was puzzled, "Madam Web, what happened just now? What did you learn?"
Madam Web, still trembling, said, "I suddenly touched the world beyond our world. I felt the screams of countless children on the brink of death, and they..."
Her face once again showed pain, and her voice choked up.
'94 Spider and Gwen were confused; they could see Madam Web in great distress but had no idea what had happened.
However, Mark could somewhat understand her words.
The "children" she mentioned were probably the Spider-Men being hunted in parallel universes.
Still, what did she mean by the "world beyond our world"?
"Huff, huff—" Madam Web seemingly had no intention of explaining; her aged and withered hands tightly gripped the armrests of the chair, gasping for breath.
After a while, she managed to regain some composure and looked at Mark with an unprecedented gravity, "I already understand your purpose, but he also has his own mission. Moreover, his mission is equally crucial."
'94 Spider tilted his head, "My mission? You've been talking about missions and tests for a long time, but what does it really mean? Since Mark said the crisis of the Multiverse Spider-Men is real, then I must participate in this war. Because helping them is helping myself!"
His tone was resolute.
However, compared to his previous impatience with Madame Web, now he seemed to have softened towards her.
He sensed from Madame Web's fragmented words her deep affection for Spider-Men.
Madame Web shook her head, "While the war over there is crucial for the lives of all Spider-Men, doesn't this war here also affect the critical survival of the Multiverse?"
Mark stepped forward slightly, "Are you referring to the Spider-Carnage, amplifying the energy of the Interdimensional port technology to destroy all reality universes?"
Madame Web paused, surprised, "How do you know? Can you also see the future?"
"See the future? Are you saying there will be a guy called 'Spider-Carnage' trying to destroy all universes in the future?" '94 Spider was astonished.
But what surprised him even more was Mark nodding, "Yes, and this Spider-Carnage is you! You, driven insane in a parallel universe!"
"Uh(⊙o⊙)..." '94 Spider's expression froze, as if his mouth was stuffed with an egg.
Mark's words made Madame Web more certain of his ability to see the future.
She said, "Since you can foresee the future, you should know how dangerous this is."
Mark replied, "I know, that's why Gwen and I are here. We will join Peter to eliminate Spider-Carnage and completely thwart his conspiracy! But before that, I want to meet The Beyonder."
Madame Spider hesitated for a moment, nodded, "I can try, but I'm not sure if it will succeed. After all, meeting the Beyonder is not something that happens at will."
With that, she closed her eyes.
It seemed she was trying to contact the Beyonder.
Mark felt a bit uneasy.
He couldn't quite understand the Beyonder, a somewhat capricious individual.
You can say he is kind, but he's willing to experiment with the lives of an entire planet for the sake of understanding "good and evil."
You can say he is evil, yet he uses all his power to restore destroyed universes.
Moreover, for Spider-Men, the Inheritors was indeed a formidable enemy, naturally standing on the opposite side.
But in reality, although the Inheritors was ruthless, their goal was clear—they hunted Spider-Men and weren't overly eager to cause destruction.
The ones almost wiped out were some animal universes, like Earth-7831 in "Superior Spider-Man."
So, in the grand scheme of the Multiverse, the Inheritors remained inconsequential.
If this Beyonder was truly a transcendent being grounded in the Multiverse, why would he care about the extinction of a small tribe in the Multiverse?
It's like on Earth, where every once in a while, species go extinct, and aside from the extinct species and those advocating for animal rights, who really cares?
It's not like the Earth is being destroyed.
