My eyes stung as I opened them. Actually, my whole body felt like it had been pummeled by the worst avalanche imaginable.

I glanced toward my right and saw Milo unconscious. So, it wasn't a nightmare. He really did get badly injured. It-it was all my fault. As lieutenant, I should've protected him and the others better. I was a failure at my job.

Tears streamed down my face. Once again, I allowed someone I loved to get hurt in front of me. Why was I so weak? These past seven years should've made me stronger. Yet, it felt like hadn't grown at all.

"Koyuki, you're awake!" Yukito said. "But, why are you crying?"

"I-I let Milo down," I said as I held my hands over my eyes.

He walked over and patted my head. "Koyu, please don't blame yourself. It's not your fault. It's that demon's fault."
