Chapter 18: Not-So-Subtle Attempts

Kian put his arm around Junie as they walked up to the entrance of the zoo. It had been six months since they met and they decided to go on a special date to celebrate. Junie couldn’t believe that the time had gone so quickly. She couldn’t even imagine what life would be like without Kian.

Her life had changed so much in the short amount of time that she and Kian knew one another. Junie had been lost and a little depressed when she moved to California, her only friend being Callie. After her parents divorced, she had been convinced that finding love just wasn’t an option in her family, especially when her older brother left. The one man she thought she could depend on just up and abandoned them. What was she supposed to think?

She had been afraid that Kian was going to be the same way. She knew that was mainly why she couldn’t share things about herself with him. In the end, she was afraid of getting hurt, of being abandoned by yet another man in her life.
