Chapter 29: Because You Were There

"Thank you for saving me back there," Junie said to Kian, flashing a grin at him as they walked to the car to head to dinner. "Hugs aren't really a big deal but I just get a little awkward with new people."

Kian smiled back but Junie thought it looked a little tight. "That guy has always been a bit forward," he said. "He doesn't understand boundaries. It's something that got him into some trouble in high school."

"Trouble?" she repeated.

He glanced ahead where his younger brother was already climbing into the car. He spoke quickly, seeming to want to get the words out before they entered the vehicle as well, not wanting the teen to hear. "Some sexual harassment stuff," he admitted, his eyes shifting to Junie's as if gauging her reaction.

Junie's eyes went round and she stared down at the asphalt beneath her shoes for a moment, not sure how to feel. She decided quickly that she obviously didn't have the whole story and that Liam's personality did come off as bold.
