A week later...

I opened my eyes slightly, after an afternoon, three-hour nap, slanting a sleepy glance at the clock. Everything was blurry, but one small effort and Ghoul's vision immediately focused on the dangling clock. 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I'd only had three hours sleep...sucks.

Getting out of bed and stretching, I went to the fridge in the kitchen out of habit, opening and examining the contents. Remembering that my ability to eat any food had been taken away, a can of ground coffee from the cupboard came into my hands. Brewing a beverage, I sat back in my chair, slowly savouring the coffee.

3 days ago, my parents got divorced. It's great, isn't it? Four hours later, my father had been murdered and was lying somewhere in the alleys, torn to pieces. No, they'll be able to identify him, but there's a lot of meat missing.

Also, a certain Kosaka and a dozen other guys from all over our school have been in the hospital for a week now with broken bones. I only had half the punching power in that fight.

Also, Touka and I did go out on the weekend, having a good time, and she thanked me and said she wouldn't mind going out like that again. Along the way, Yuno started following me even more, but now she was just walking around. Almost half of the female (and half of the male) roster was angry at me, but I didn't care. Moreover, the other half of the girls hated Yuno. Well, four days ago, there was a murder on the school grounds.

Kiroasa Shinjuri, one of the most... let's just say popular girls among the guys, tried to hit on me, and 24 hours later, at the first recess they found her corpse, disfigured with various cuts. It was ruled that she'd been killed the previous day. Heh, it was funny to see a wall of puking boys and girls. I, on the other hand, was only mildly surprised, I had no such impulses, corpses had long since become an immediate part of my life, back in Fiore. In Tristain it was even worse, and in vampire Tokyo... well, except in demon Tokyo I didn't kill as much, and then there was Ghoul Tokyo, which was nothing to talk about, and finally Empire. I killed a lot of people there too, maybe even compared to Tristain.

Next, every school class was analysed and interrogated. The time of her death came at a very inconvenient moment, when many had an alibi that Yuno didn't. So I covered for her by saying that we were at my house and my mum could prove it. Thankfully, they didn't check it, because every alibi is problematic. Yuno looked at me strangely after the interrogation, but when I asked her why I lied, she replied "Well, you didn't kill her anyway, did you?".

Naturally I knew that Yuno was the murderer, but she shouldn't know about my excessive... ahem, informational content. Next we went to the amusement park, where Yuno's great attitude returned.

But, something was still eating at me. A couple of days ago, I had been summoned back to my place by the 2 gods, bringing news that... somewhat alarmed me.

Flashback.

- You're changing the rules? - I asked in surprise.

- Yes, but how exactly, we will tell you after a small test. - The brunette god nodded.

- And what kind of test?

- Oh, nothing special. If you can fend off a group of people with test versions of diaries of the future, we'll tell you the details, and if not... well, you won't need it. Anyway, get ready. In the next five days, you're going to be visited by.

***

To tell you the truth, this is the third day I've been walking around on high alert. So, a couple of tests, which were in school for these days, instead of excellent marks, received satisfactory, which for "excellent", which I became after the accident, was unacceptable.

If these are diary users, then such caution on my part is fully justified. I don't know what these "hunters" are capable of, I've never gone up against people who know the future.

Hmmm... no, the Arim in front of my eyes was a bad example. Yes, it felt like he knew the future, but that's just professionalism.

Mum's in the living room watching TV, so I decided to answer the knock on the door.

- I'll get it. - I shouted to my mum, smelling the male perfume behind the door, covering the faint stench of sweat. Yes, it's a hot day, but it's okay, the school year will be over soon, and I can rest. Hmm, it's not just that smell. I can smell a woman's perfume too.

I opened the door to see in front of me... two police officers. I see, they're here to report my father missing. The first was a man in his 40s, with a light black beard. His not-short hair was combed and his grey suit was spotless. Next to him, stood a much younger girl, who personally, I would give no more than 18. Long, black hair, braided into 2 braids, falling on her size 3 breasts (hormones...) a luscious figure and a smile on her face, with which she examined my calm and a little lazy expression.

Hmm, the remarkable thing was that I was almost up to the girl's nose, and to the man's shoulder. Yes, growth is such a thing... I'm glad that for these incomplete 2 weeks, I grew almost 2 centimetres, which spoke about the accelerated return of the body "to normal".

- Hello. - I said calmly.

- Hello, baby. - The man smiled at me affably, but there was something wrong in his eyes. Regret and compassion? - Your name is Kaneki Amano, right?

Yes! The divorce papers were drawn up with my "new" name, at my request to my parents. As a result, in all police databases, I'm now listed as "Kaneki Amano" in the main column, although my original name is always given in smaller print below.

- Yes, Mr Officer. - I nodded, noticing the puzzlement on both of their faces.

- Is your mum home?

- Yes. Mum! - I moved away from the door, looking towards the passage to the living room. - the police are here!

A few seconds later, Rhea was already at the door, and I sat down at the kitchen table again, sipping my coffee and listening to the conversation.

- Hello, are you Reya Amano, Kuroe Amano's wife?

- Yes, that's me. Except ex-wife, we got divorced a few days ago. Is there a problem with that?

- Officer Garyu Niroueichi. - There was a slight hesitation, so he must have shown his ID. - You're a suspect in the murder of your ex-husband, and I'm asking you to come with me. Your son will be followed by my partner until the interview is complete, so don't worry.

I confess, if my hair had colour, I'm sure I'd have a few grey ones. Follow me. She will. A 20-year-old girl. I highly doubt she'll just sit in the living room and watch TV, rather she'll be babysitting me, despite the fact that this biological body is 12. 12!!! And if she's going to babysit, then maybe hormones will be at play, and with a girl like that, I have no doubt they WILL be at play.

While I was realising that my personal hell was about to begin in a couple of minutes, Mum let the cops into the house, quickly grabbing her bag and walking over to me. Behind her back, stood the same girl, and in my eyes, she already had a tail from behind her back, horns growing out of her head, and small succubus wings unfolding behind her.

- Kaneki, I have to go somewhere and you sit with that girl officer, okay? - Rhea was pale and her voice shook a little.

I took one last sip of coffee, setting the large mug aside, gave first my mum and then the officer a calm and detached look and nodded.

As soon as the door closed, I sighed sadly, throwing my head back, looking up at the ceiling. Meanwhile, the policewoman was looking at me with a slight, sad smile, focusing on my hair the most.

- Murdered after all..." I hummed, standing up and preparing another mug of coffee. - Do you want coffee?

- Huh?" the girl asked in surprise.

- I said, do you want coffee? - I politely repeated the question.

- No, that's not what I meant. You just said that he was killed after all. - The girl said worriedly. Hmm, I should get her name, it's embarrassing.

- Dad had a lot of debts. Too much, and after the accident with me, which brought me a lot of brains and this, - I pointed at my hair, pouring coffee into the mug. - I've been rethinking a lot of things in my life. I knew before that the debts were piling up and piling up, that's why he left us. And I realised that there were three options: either he would be killed, or blackmailed by us, or he would somehow miraculously pay off his debts. However, he decided to rule out the second option by leaving me and Mum. Well, fifty-fifty didn't work out. - I shrugged. - So do you want coffee?

- Yes. - the officer nodded dazedly, and I took another mug, about half the size of mine, pouring powder into it. - You're saying he was killed because of debts? The credit card companies? And yet you're so calm about your father's death.....

- Mm-hmm, because he only died because of his stupidity. - I hummed, pouring boiling water into my mugs. - Like I said, something went wrong in my brain when the lorry blew my carcass off.

- You got hit by a lorry? - the officer asked me with fear, excitement and pity.

- Yeah, I hit a classmate of mine saving her life. She was running a red light. And what's your name, because I tell you, I tell you, and you...?

- I'll take a "you". - the girl smiled a little. - I'm Chi Natsubasu. That's a strange name, isn't it?

- There are stranger names. - I smiled a little. - Here's your coffee.

Two and a half hours later, my mother came in, and she was released after the interrogation because she had an alibi... she was dating a classmate she'd met after the divorce proceedings, and they'd been out practically all night. And this classmate turned out to be a major in some military force, so he quickly sorted it out over the phone and mum was released.

Chi herself turned out to be quite a nice person... but her hormones didn't kick in. I kept glancing at her, catching myself thinking that a guy and a girl are alone in a big house with no one else in it for a few hours... anyway, the usual thoughts of a 12 year old.

Anyway, we had a good talk, I found out that she was on an internship and dreamed of becoming the successor of a certain Captain Kurusu, whom she revered like hell.

- Mum, didn't you buy any coffee? - I asked Rhea, who was sitting at the table and drilling a picture of our whole "family" with a black-haired boy, a woman and my dead father.

- What's that mug shot of the day already? - The sad mother asked aloofly.

- I stopped counting after the tenth. - I shrugged.

- You can't drink that much coffee.

- I'm an addict, used to caffeine in my bloodstream. - I hummed, opening the last cupboard in search of the miraculously remaining packet. There isn't any. Sad.

- Kaneki, have you eaten? Was that policewoman behaving normally? - Rhea asked tiredly, changing the subject.

- Yes, I ate. - I sneakily lied. - Yeah, Aunt Chi was quite pleasant to talk to. We talked the whole time you were being interrogated.

- I see...

- Are you okay? Would you like some tea? - I asked, already wondering how I could get to the shop for coffee.

- No, I don't feel well after the interrogation... I'm going to get some sleep, okay?

- Yeah, I'll go for a walk then.

- With Juno? - Rhea gave me a sort of smile.

- No, I'll just get some fresh air. - I said no. - I could go to the shop.

- No, we've got everything. Come back before eight, okay?

- OK, bye! - I slipped out into the street, grabbing a thousand yen note from the hall table.

Hmm... I left the house under the guise of a walk and gave my mother time to think about how to tell me about my father's death. Let her think, and I'll walk to Anteiku's. Still, their coffee's better than homemade powder. When Rhea leaves on a business trip, I'll go and buy expensive and high-quality coffee beans.

Actually, it's strange that it was Rhea who was suspected of murder and not the debtors. I doubt the police didn't know about my father-in-law's debt contracts, though maybe it's only Chi who didn't know about it? She's just an intern.

By the way, I should think about what I should do on holiday. No, I could download some MMORPG and hang out in it for a month... but man, I'm not sure if I'd like it after all my "MMORPG life". Killing monsters and people doesn't satiate me anymore.

No, some time can be spent for walks with Touka/Yuno, but firstly, with the first very often get out will not work, and with the second... I'm afraid to spoil so much canon. And I can mess it up big time!

Walking along the streets, I was about to go to a cafe, but suddenly I heard a conversation that made me very wary.

Meanwhile, on the roof.

- Is that him? - I asked incredulously to a guy with a short hedgehog hair, holding a sniper rifle.

- Yes." a young frowning girl with blue hair stood next to him, staring at her phone.

- Young. Very young. - said cheerfully a grinning black-haired woman in short shorts and a tank top.

Along with this trio stood nine other people, each with their phones in their hands. It was immediately obvious that the blue-haired woman was the leader of this company.

- And this nice boy is a monster that needs to be killed for the sake of the diaries? - the same woman asked.

- Yes. Everyone keep an eye on the diaries and corner him. Teres, she turned to the sniper. - Remember, your targets are his eyes, only through them can you do damage. Everyone else is the same, shoot him in the eyes and only in the eyes, even if you hit his skin, the wounds will heal instantly.

Suddenly, the white-haired kid froze.

"BZZZZ," came from all twelve people's phones at the same time.

- Wh-wh-what! - The blue-haired girl exclaimed dumbfoundedly, looking at the inscription on her phone:

"19:37. Street roof. Our entire group killed by a Ghoul."

"DEAD END."

Meanwhile, the white-haired boy turned his head and looked, with horribly cold eyes, clearly at her.
