In the misty mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, the once quiet and peaceful Ravenwood Pack is thrown into confusion and disbelief when the Alpha of the pack, Jasper Ravenwood rejects his chosen mate, Akira Moonstone. The usual joyful nature of mate revelation ceremony is transformed into a mixture of emotions and surprise when Alpha Jasper rejects his mate with the proclamation that her lineage is too weak and inferior for him to make her his Alpha female.



In reality, he rejects Akira Moonstone because he is smitten and infatuated with Nyx Shadowbrook, a wolf who is the latest addition to the pack but is able to draw people to her because of her beauty and kindness. In a cruel twist of fate, Akira Moonstone becomes one of the best warriors and shapeshifters in the Shadowbrook games which are held every year. After defeating their best warrior, she not only gains the attention of the people, but also the Alpha, Crawford Shadowbrook. Crawford Shadowbrook takes a liking to her and makes her his deputy chief of army staff.



In a meeting that tells Akira the stakes involved in the messy pack of Shadowbrook, Crawford meets his daughter, Nyx, who discloses how to attack the Ravenwood pack successfully and clinch victory. Akira recognizes her as the wolf who Alpha Jasper is infatuated with and is in shock.



In a whirlwind of destiny plotting, Akira Moonstone has to choose between her home, Ravenwood and the Shadowbrook pack which has accepted her and given her comfort. Will she join the Shadowbrook pack in destroying her home? Or will she turn to the Ravenwood pack with the hope that her chosen mate has realized his mistake and is willing to take her back?
