Konoha Hospital.
Yahiko, Konan, and Jiraiya stood outside the operating room, waiting in silence.
When the doctor finally emerged and informed them that the surgery was over, the three of them quickly entered the room one after another.
Nagato was sitting on the hospital bed, his eyes red and swollen.
Thanks to the healing effects of medical ninjutsu, he could see clearly again, but the once-vibrant purple Rinnegan had now turned into ordinary black pupils.
"Nagato…" Konan said worriedly.
"I'm fine." Nagato let out a deep breath.
His Rinnegan had been taken away, but he didn't feel much sorrow.
Instead, he felt a strange sense of relief.
Back in Amegakure, because of the Rinnegan, many people had regarded him as a savior.
But he had always felt inadequate—like the expectations placed upon him were suffocating.
Compared to those eyes, the fact that the people he cared about were safe was far more important.
Nagato looked at Yahiko and asked, "Yahiko, can we go home now?"
Yahiko was deeply moved.
He grasped both Konan's and Jiraiya's wrists and nodded firmly.
"Yes! Let's go home!"
Nagato's face lit up with a smile, as pure as it once was.
The three of them had relied on each other since childhood, supporting one another through every hardship.
They were more than just companions—they were family.
In that moment, Yahiko felt as if he had finally let go.
Saving the world was too difficult.
It was enough for them to simply stay together, safe and sound.
After leaving Konoha Hospital.
Jiraiya suddenly said that he had one last visit to make and told Yahiko and the others to wait for him at Konoha's main gate.
He arrived at Tsunade's house.
The door was opened by Shizune, who was utterly shocked to see him.
"L-Lord Jiraiya, you…" Shizune stammered, struggling to form a complete sentence.
"Is Tsunade home?" Jiraiya asked.
Shizune slowly shook her head. "Lady Tsunade went to see the Hokage."
Jiraiya froze for a moment, his eyes revealing a trace of disappointment.
"I see."
Then, forcing a smile, he said to Shizune, "When she gets back, please tell her I came by… to say goodbye."
Shizune hesitated before nodding. "I understand."
She looked at Jiraiya, seeing him standing there in perfect health, and in the end, she couldn't help but ask, "Lord Jiraiya… are you really alright now?"
She wanted to ask if Jiraiya had really been spared from execution—after all, it was common knowledge throughout the village.
Jiraiya simply replied, "The Hokage has given me another chance."
Not being able to see Tsunade left a deep sense of regret in his heart.
As he walked toward Konoha's main gate, he suddenly felt something and glanced toward the Hokage Tower.
Unfortunately, he couldn't catch a glimpse of the one he longed for.
Konoha's Main Gate.
"Jiraiya-sensei, are you done with your business?"
"Yeah, it's done… Let's go."
Inside the Hokage Tower.
Samui pushed open the door to the lounge and saw Makoto and Tsunade inside.
"Lord Hokage, the surgery on Nagato at the hospital has been completed. Minister Kabuto would like you to visit the research institute."
"Got it."
Makoto responded lazily, standing by the bed as Tsunade helped him get dressed.
He let out a long yawn, looking like he had just woken up from an afternoon nap.
After getting dressed, Makoto walked straight out of the lounge.
Samui glanced at Tsunade, who was tidying up the bed, then walked over to the table and poured a glass of water.
"Here."
Tsunade was momentarily stunned as she looked at the cup and napkin Samui handed her.
She instinctively accepted them and thanked her, then suddenly realized something and quickly wiped the corner of her mouth.
"Jiraiya has left with Yahiko and the others from Amegakure," Samui added.
"…I see." Tsunade simply replied.
Samui smiled and said, "If you have time, feel free to visit me. You're always welcome."
It was the first time she had extended such an invitation to Tsunade.
It seemed that at this moment, she truly regarded Tsunade as someone within her circle, signifying that Tsunade's position had now been solidified for the future.
Makoto went to the biotechnology research institute, with Tsunade closely following him.
Kabuto was in the middle of studying the recently obtained Rinnegan.
When he saw Makoto enter, he greeted him, "Lord Hokage."
"How is it?"
After a brief moment of consideration, Kabuto replied, "It's only a preliminary observation. No useful conclusions yet."
Makoto asked, "Do you think cloning it is possible?"
Kabuto slowly shook his head. "Even the Tenseigan could only be obtained through evolution. The Rinnegan gives me the same impression."
His success in using cloning techniques to obtain Toneri's cell and Hizashi's eyes—combining the two to awaken Makoto's ancestral chakra and evolve the Tenseigan—didn't necessarily mean the same approach would work for the Rinnegan.
Makoto wasn't disappointed.
After all, it was Rinnegan—it made sense that it couldn't be mass-produced.
Even in the original story, the Otsutsuki clan from beyond the stars did not possess the Rinnegan naturally.
Only those who consumed the God Tree's fruit could awaken it.
Based on the original series, the Rinnegan seemed more like an external power granted by the divine tree rather than an inherent ability of the Otsutsuki.
Both Uchiha Madara's and Rikudo Sennin Rinnegan were inherited from Kaguya, who only awakened it after consuming the God Tree's fruit.
In the sequel to the original story, the newly introduced Otsutsuki members were not initially shown with the Rinnegan.
This suggests that the Rinnegan might actually be a power derived from the God Tree and Juubi.
Many of the Otsutsuki clan members from beyond the stars only obtained such abilities after consuming the God Tree's fruit.
The extraterrestrial Otsutsuki clan functions as a colonizing species, using God Trees to invade other planets and absorb their life energy.
Once a planet is completely drained, the God Tree produces a massive chakra fruit.
Typically, an Otsutsuki duo is responsible for planting and nurturing the God Tree—one serves as the Guardian, and the other as the Vessel.
During the process, the Guardian is sacrificed to feed the juvenile Juubi, allowing it to mature into a full-fledged God Tree, while the Vessel waits for the tree to bear fruit.
Since the Otsutsuki are immortal, a lower-ranking Guardian, before being sacrificed, would seek out a suitable "vessel" on the target planet.
They would implant a Karma seal in this vessel, allowing them to resurrect at a later time—similar to Orochimaru's Curse Mark and Living Corpse Reincarnation Technique.
The cost of this process, however, is losing one's personality and freedom for an extended period.
Otsutsuki Kaguya was originally a Guardian.
She was meant to be sacrificed to Juubi, but she refused to offer herself.
Instead, she betrayed and ambushed her partner, the Vessel, who was Otsutsuki Isshiki.
Afterward, she secretly consumed the God Tree's fruit, gave birth to children, and attempted to create White Zetsu soldiers to defend against the future arrival of the Otsutsuki clan.
However, this ultimately led to her being sealed away by her own sons.
Otsutsuki Isshiki did not exhibit any Rinnegan abilities.
Makoto speculated that the three great dojutsu—Rinnegan, Sharingan, and Byakugan—do not belong to a single evolutionary system.
The Byakugan is an inherent trait of the Otsutsuki bloodline, while the Rinnegan is a power derived from Juubi.
Rinnegan might not even be the ultimate evolution of the Sharingan.
The abilities of the Sharingan and Rinnegan are completely independent, with no direct connection between them.
Even when Madara possessed both the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and Rinnegan, he had to manually switch between them to use their respective powers.
Additionally, Rikudo Sennin ( Otsutsuki Hagoromo ) mentioned that Madara awakened the Rinnegan because he united the powers of Indra and Asura, ultimately leading to the manifestation of the Sage of Six Paths abilities.
