Barbara ran and met up with her grandfather Johnson she then greeted him "Good day grandpa, seems like we are preparing for a feast, but you aren't happy. Does there seem to be a problem?"
Johnson feigned a smile and responded"You know I'm not all about social gatherings but this particular event has to be done "
He tried changing the subject by asking for Deborah.
On hearing her name, Barbara got a little vexed but she hid it well.
"I haven't seen her since I left the hospital, isn't she supposed to be here helping out with the preparations?"
She said this to stylishly throw a shade at her sister who she saw as her competition and adversary.
Johnson then told her that Deborah might still be in school and caught up with her duties.
Inside the mansion, the servants were all engaged trying to get everything in order before the event as it seems to be happening today.
Edward the Chief servant was so busy instructing the other servants on how to handle the arrangement of chairs and tables.
He also kept an eye on the food and wine section along with other activities that were required.
Patrick arrived a bit late from work and then saw how busy everyone in the mansion looked.
He saw his father standing with Barbara his second daughter and decided to join them.
On getting close, he then greeted his father Johnson and asked "What's the grand occasion for?"
Johnson then smiled and said "My apologies for not informing you about it earlier on, I didn't want to disturb you at work, as you don't like being bothered once you get to your workplace"
Edward who has been busy for hours then found a little window of opportunity to meet Johnson.
Since they both had an internal investigation they were both conducting and keeping a secret.
He then approached Johnson and said " Master can I speak with you briefly "
Johnson replied "Sure "and then left Barbara and Patrick.
Barbara suspected the reason Edward called Johnson so she pretended to listen to her father, Patrick but in all essence she was eavesdropping on Johnson and Edward's conversation.
Edward then spoke freely to Johnson saying "Master I have checked everywhere and everything, I even decided to look into the servant's personal belongings but nothing was found "
Immediately the words left Edward's mouth, Johnson once more became sad
He addressed Edward with a voice filled with anger but not so much as to show it "Keep looking "
Barbara who had been eavesdropping then walked up to her grandpa and said
"Ah Grandpa I knew something was wrong and you didn't want to say "
Patrick who was a bit lost and confused walked up to both of them and asked "What's wrong Dad?"
Johnson then replied to both of them saying "Nothing"
And leaving both son and granddaughter.
... In Dean's Ronald office, Deborah and Oscar discussed the events that occurred today.
Oscar couldn't stop thinking of how Adrian had belittled him in front of the Dean and Deborah.
He was more concerned about how Deborah viewed him now that another man had embarrassed him.
He tried to take his mind off it.
Deborah who was working with Oscar on a little paperwork that they were going to present to the Dean and other lecturers suddenly remembered;
She was late for her grandpa's celebration.
"Oh God! I'm late Oscar, I should have left school a while ago and you didn't remind me "
Oscar was confused and asked why, Deborah then told him in a jovial tone,
"Hey silly have you forgotten what today is? "
Oscar still had no clue and Deborah shook her head saying
"It's my grandpa's celebration of life giving him a second chance and I'm already late as it stands, I know, you don't have to say it I'm a bad granddaughter"
Oscar just smiled and told her " Hey you better hurry then, I will join you later "
As Deborah was about to leave, she remembered she hadn't formally invited the Dean.
She then gave him a card and made him promise her that she was going to be there.
Deborah then ran to the parking lot, on her way there, she remembered her encounter with Adrian.
A quick smile parted her lips and she then gave herself a slap on the cheeks saying to herself
" What has gotten into you Deborah? Stay focused"
Immediately she got into the car and drove off trying to get home as fast as she could.
As soon as she arrived home, the first person she met was Elizabeth.
Elizabeth gave her a scornful look and said "Silly child where have you been ?, How could you be arriving by this time when you know your grandpa has a big day?"
Before Deborah could reply, Elizabeth was already pulling her ear saying "Naughty child I will have to discipline you soon "
Barbara who had left her father and was about to head to the entrance, saw the spectacle and smiled.
She then smiled to herself saying "I wish I had popcorn and a drink, this show seems amazing "
Deborah finally broke free and then told Elizabeth "I had a rough day at school and I almost forgot it was Grandpa's day"
Elizabeth was not having it and said "Liar, you were probably having fun and forgot your family, your sister Barbara has been here helping out "
The servants who were watching all that was happening quickly turned and looked at one another in shock.
Elizabeth had just lied to find ground for punishing Deborah.
Johnson and Patrick saw what was happening from afar and quickly interceded and broke the two women off.
Johnson then held Deborah asking "What's happening, why is your step-mum harassing you?"
Deborah then narrated her ordeal to Johnson who sympathised with her.
Elizabeth became very furious and wanted to accuse Johnson of picking sides but she was held by Patrick.
"Enough of all the drama, the guests would soon start arriving".
After saying those words, he dismissed everyone and then told them to prepare.
