Deborah was escorted out of the hall and taken to a smaller room for questioning.
This wasn't some typical interrogative room, just somewhere private within the mansion.
Edward and Joe brought her there, gave her a seat and closed the door.
Johnson stood outside as it was best for him not to interfere.
Patrick and Elizabeth noticing as Deborah was pulled out of the party awkwardly with Johnson following up behind knew something was up.
They too decided to leave their friends and follow up with Johnson to know what happened.
The only cool and calm person in all of this was Barbara.
She was smiling and jubilating in her mind, seeing that her plans were coming to manifestation.
She thought to herself
"For once, let Grandpa see that Deborah my sister is not the saint that everyone thinks she is. After today, people would begin to place me before her "
In the private room, Edward and Joe tried soft-talking Deborah but her reaction was the same.
She said nothing and just stared at them.
Edward went first saying "Deborah how come we found Johnson's ring in your room close to your mother's necklace?"
Deborah looked at him and for the first time she spoke
"I don't have any idea of how it came into my possession, I left my room and it was only my mum's necklace that was placed there, this seems like a misunderstanding. "
Joe wasn't having it and retorted
"A misunderstanding yeah? Your grandpa praised and exalted you in front of all the guests, this is how you repay him?"
Deborah sighed and just looked at the window which was a bit tinted only to see Johnson standing there.
Their eyes met and Johnson immediately averted her eyes with a disappointed look.
Deborah's heart sank, she couldn't blame him
All evidence seemed to point towards her stealing the ring.
Deborah looked back at Joe and with a defiant look, she asked him "If I stole the ring, I would have sold it by now, because from my guess it's been days since it went missing"
Edward and Joe were numb for a while and looked at themselves.
They never thought about it from this angle, how dumb of them.
Deborah noticing a change of expression on their faces continued
"I noticed earlier today that Grandpa was sad and I approached him, asking what was wrong and he told me his chest was opened and his ring was stolen. So tell me guys why would I be so dumb to place it within your reach with the information I have "
All Joe and Edward could say was "Hmmm"
Outside the room stood Johnson, Patrick and Elizabeth.
A flicker of smile could be seen on Elizabeth's face and she went on with "What has the black sheep of the house done this time?"
Johnson gave her a fiery look which scared Elizabeth for a second.
Patrick interjected "Elizabeth we don't even know what's going on and you are already drawing a conclusion"
Johnson then spoke saying "My diamond ring has been missing for days now "
Elizabeth and Patrick's eyes had a look of surprise.
Patrick voiced out saying" How come you never told me Father?, you know I would have handled it better"
Johnson replied " I know, but the celebrations were coming up and I wanted to be discreet and keep it under wraps, that's why I didn't involve the police"
Barbara finally joined them, laughing out loud. She didn't seem surprised at all.
"Has she finally been caught? Uhmm I mean, what's Deborah doing inside there Mum?"
.... Inside the room, Deborah continued by telling Edward and Joe
"I think we should get one thing straight, I didn't steal my grandpa's ring. But it's of no use, you guys don't see that I'm being framed "
Edward asked her "Who would want to do that to you?"
The room was soundproof so her family members couldn't hear their conversations.
Deborah's eyes caught up with Barbara's and she noticed a cold smile on her face.
Oh no! She just discovered that Barbara was the one trying to frame her but how could she prove it?
Suddenly she remembered that a surveillance camera was placed around the mansion but it hadn't been in use for a while.
Due to maintenance issues, it was down and the family had forgotten about it since the whole mansion was safe.
When the maintenance issues were resolved, no one knew about it except the maintenance guy, Deborah and a few of the servants who were present.
Deborah then asked Joe and Edward to check the surveillance camera and see if it could be of help.
Joe had a frown on his face as his eyes began to twitch before he spoke
"Deborah hope this isn't one of your plans to divert the attention from you, we know what we saw regardless, and you child, stole your grandpa's ring "
Edward then reprimanded Joe "I think we should check the surveillance camera and if we can't find anything then she's going to be in a lot of trouble "
Edward and Joe came out and told Johnson they would like to speak with him alone
"Sir I think this isn't a simple task, she might be innocent but we can't say for sure, although all evidence seems to point to her being framed"
Johnson felt a bit relieved but it wasn't over yet.
They then told Johnson that they wanted to get some footage from the surveillance camera and they would be right back.
Barbara was oblivious to what was happening as she was engaged in a conversation with her mum and dad.
Edward and Joe went to the video room and then got the footage for that particular hour and period.
They didn't want to play it without Deborah, not to make it seem like they were tampering with evidence.
They headed back to the room and played the tape.
Who they saw came as a big surprise to all of them.
