During the Kyuubi attack, the Fourth Hokage and Kushina did not leave behind just one child, but two. The differences between them were many, but perhaps the most significant was that one of them was a reincarnated soul. Unexpectedly, when the Shinigami appeared, a soul from another world took over the body of one of the newborns.
