Synopsis

When Zhou Yi woke up, he realized he had become an executioner at the Demon-Slaying Department in Great Qian.

It was a time where demons roamed the earth and terrorized all living beings, where the balance of the world began to shift.

As an executioner, every demon that Zhou Yi had executed would fetch him rewards, varying from the Huang-ting Scripture to the Purple Ying Sword, the Flat Peach Spiritual Root, the Five-colored Immortal Bull, the Tiangang Spell, the Disha Divine Arts, and many more.

This was the story of a man who roamed the nine heavens and ten hells, the story of a man who paced his way to immortality.

Just the fact that the name is Zhuo Yi and not Roderick is 5 star worthy.

5 star for no westernizations. Webnovel, nationalism is still nationalism even if you change the country.

What is the problem with qidian, in the past we had great novels like LOTM or RTW , even the others novels, if wasn't great at least had personality enough to be recognised but now only one novel doesn't change the names and I don't even say about the fact that 99% of this novels are copy from each other.

eh, it was good, but then the cliche hits. mc saves a little demon girl and helps her cultivate. couldn't be bothered to know what happens after. If ur into these kinds of stories, then go on ahead.

Translation? Mediocre. Story? Mediocre. Anyway I don't know if it's intentional but the Qian Dynasty in this webnovel here seems to be a terrible place to live in and I don't like how the Mc is just content to live in that. In the end I do not recommend reading further. Only good point is that the Mc doesn't have a westernized name. I am becoming way too bitter for this.

it's good. Read it. Add it to your list. Get it picked. Vote for it. How many letters do I have to write in order to post this review? Oh, 140.

This is a completely pointless esoteric novel. It talks about Taoism, Buddhism, Heavenly Scriptures and all sort of stuff. But it's completely aimless since the story doesn't go anywhere. The protagonist gains strength easily - his system rewards him for ever captive demon he kills. He doesn't ever mature as a person, but he sure does gain a lot of powers (invulnerable body, 100,000 years Taoist cultivation etc). This author achieved a record. He made the most boring repetition vaguely interesting (all that happens in this story is description of the protagonist waking up, executing a demon, harvesting its organs, recording events in his journal/blook [now rinse, repeat forever]) - but so what? The heart of this story is pointless, there's no development in narrative, or the protagonist. It's a well-written tragedy. Shame since this novel clearly puts a lot of effort into world building.

Not really a valid or particularly interesting review here. Just don't like what I've seen and I've decided hey! I should review this! In essence this is the quintessence of maybe good ideas without good execution. My bar for Trial reads couldn't be anymore low but here I am still disappointed again and again. At least we got a Zhou Yi instead of John but Is my bar so low however to make this a five star review? Nope and Goodbye.

overall this book talks about complete nonsense. There is no development in story and MC is dumb. Sometimes he tries to become good but instantly become evil. There is no time to waste for this book.

A straight up good read, at least for the nineteen chapters trail read gives. A slow burn for sure without the instant power up a system novel gives, but this gives it strength in it's world building. His 'cheat' gives access to pills and item's, along with cultivation arts. But none suddenly give a boost to some random new stage of cultivation the author had pull out their butt to try and keep the reader going. This is a great thing! Without the huge focus on what realm the MC has reached, we skip the enemies he faces randomly popping up with stupidly high realms for him to miraculously overcome. We get actual story! A empire, a village, an event, and what's happening in them and to who, all deliver a depth I wish I could see more often. Chapters are long and kept me reading far longer than other stories. I've dropped stories faster than I got thru the first ten. The there's not much of the character spelled out for you. You will have to look at the actions and decisions to see the peoples character, as in the MC isn't going to just stop the tale and wax poetic about his morals and goals. It's been so long since I've read a story not seemingly written as a rough draft, this is the closest to an actual novel. I want more!

I'm pretty sure this novel is at least partially inspired by A Hangman's Diary: The Journal of Master Franz Schmidt, Public Executioner of Nuremberg especially the start of the novel though obviously this is a mystical setting and not a real diary of an executioner. It's like a combination of that and a somewhat interesting twist of a sign-in novel except instead of signing in he executes demons to get rewards. Unsure where it will go beyond the executions. Overall, it seems fairly decent. I think it could have been better if instead of a sign in type system he just gave the MC a cultivation technique that relied on slaughter to cultivate and if you get to a certain level you can leave and join a sect or something. That'd be at least a little more interesting than falling victim to some of the same problems that many sign-in novels have such as getting x number of years of cultivation as a reward. Still it is at least a better concept than most sign-in novels at least at this point.
