Synopsis

Strength is all that matters. The strong decides whether the weak can even breathe.

And despite Devon being born into one of the strongest families, he himself is weak. The only thing he had left to offer was his life in the hopes his father would grow a little stronger by eating him.

"Maybe now your life will have meaning!!!" His father shouted as he devoured him.

Reincarnated as a servant in a different continent, Devon finds that he's been revived with an SSS rank skill:

[Corruption - Rank: SSS - Corrupt any beast. As you use the beast's soul, they become more attuned with the user and thus become stronger.]

[Ranking system no longer applies to your beasts.]

[Potential: Infinite]

[Beast: Juma collected.]

With this skill, he not only tames beasts but corrupts them, bending them to his very will–perfect for revenge.

With a fire set ablaze in his heart, he vowed to do one thing with this new life, "I'll make you pay, 'Father'."

This story marks a lot of improvements over my first one, which I thought was pretty decent. The mc, Devon, has a pretty messed up backstory. I mean, your own father eating you is kind of insane. Then you add on to the fact that his villagers cheered and yeah. He is honestly a crashout. Yes, he is still very capable of love. He loves his brother from his old life, his mother from his new life, his dragon he finds a decent bit in, and eventually the Elven waifu Jehrya. But he is definitely out for revenge. If you think this will be a novel where he forgives his father, for better or worse just know that is not true. The anti hero tag absolutely fits. Although Devon is seen by some as a liberator, many also see him as a devil, demon, etc. During the story he tames pretty much every beast using his corruption skill. And there's a crazy twist way further in. Probably gonna take you guys a few years to reach it, so be nice to me or I'll spoil it right now ;).

I have to say, the author is brave to use this subject matter as the opening of his book. Society wise, cannibalism is a taboo subject. But he did it in a way that made it, Umm, ok to do... I don't know how to describe it. It was masterfully done. I'm not tryin to gas his head with my review of the book. I just wanted to share that it is indeed "peak", I think that's what you kids call it. LMAO

So far the book is very good! Kai is quite the damaged, vicious person in his new life and sometimes his actions almost make him seem like a villain. then you see him interact with people he loves and realize that no, he's just broken and seeking power for revenge. there are few minor gripes but nothing pressing so far

This novel hits hard. It opens with Devon reminiscing about the good old days hammocks, flower beds, and Sophie’s first kiss. It’s this warm, nostalgic setup that contrasts beautifully with the chaos that follows. You nailed the emotional shift, from longing for peace to the brutal reality of what Devon’s facing. The sibling dynamic? Pure gold. Devon and Kisho’s banter felt alive, their bond grounding the chapter with humor before the trial. That ear yank? Chef’s kiss. It’s playful and light, making what happens next hit even harder. Then the trial starts, and it’s a gut punch. Devon’s desperation, his raw anger, and the betrayal he feels from the villagers are so visceral. The way he fakes his way through magic? Genius. You’re rooting for him, even knowing it’s not going to end well. And when the father reveals his true colors? Chilling. His sanctimonious speech, the crowd’s roar, and Devon’s brief triumph with magic all build perfectly to that brutal twist. His death and transformation into the abyss felt like a tidal wave of anger and raw power. Devon’s vow for revenge? Goosebumps. Kisho’s a tsun tsun Brocon, but his relationship with Devon adds so much to the emotional weight. Jideva’s ominous twist at the end seals it. The question of whether Devon will rise above his hatred or become consumed by it is the perfect hook.
