Saints' Isle: Resonance

Honestly such a gem of a novel. I loved it more than I expected I would, and I had really high expectations in that regard. So if you’re thinking of reading this, I would say go for it! How deeply, emotionally engaging the story is might surprise you. Let’s just say I might have gotten way too emotionally invested in the story, and I would highly suggest reading with a box of tissues on hand for some of the chapters. In terms of world building, I do wish there was more development regarding the various supernatural races and their abilities in the novel. Also I would have liked to know more characteristics of Saints’ Isle: how the races are all situated on the isle, how big it is, how similar/different it was to the advancement of the outside world, more about the magic of the island, the various realms, etc. All that being said, I acknowledge that the world building was not the focus of the novel, and honestly it wasn’t essential to the development of the story. I simply wish there was more. Regarding the character design, the characters are so beautifully flawed and constantly growing and changing. Their emotions were so exquisitely written as well. The reader is given an unobstructed view into how each of the characters interpret a situation, how they reflect on each interaction and how those moments affect how they proceed in the future. There is such clear growth in each of the characters because the author is so precise in conveying their feelings and reasoning. Also I gotta mention, this novel has one of the most effective 2nd male leads I have ever read. Ugh👏🏼so👏🏼so👏🏼good. One thing I will say though is although there was a clear distinction of power dynamics, I wish there were more instances demonstrating the characters’ rank in society in addition to outlining the prestige of their lineage. The writing quality was good in my opinion. There were some times I kind of got lost in the words and had to reread, but that could partially be because I was staying up reading in the middle of the night. Also I feel like I should warn people to be prepared to be in the dark about some stuff and some characters getting into the novel, but don’t worry it will all clear up eventually so just hang in there😊 For story development, the weight of the novel is centered around the emotional growth of the characters, and in my opinion, it made for an incredibly captivating story. The timeline of the events is well mapped out which contributed to the purposeful pacing. There was not much fluff stuff and the focus was primarily emotional pivot points which I deeply appreciated. So I believe such a driven story to be a refreshing break from more drawn out romances. Ooo I need to stop cuz this review is waaay too long😬 But I just have so much to say about this novel!!! Anyways, a 100% worthwhile read that I highly recommend from the bottom of my heart.
