Synopsis

"Hey, great news, kid... you're dead!"

With these words, Jack Eames, unrepentant slacker, found himself staring down God, and was offered a choice-

An eternal life of never-ending bliss and relaxation, OR the chance to start over as a powerful hero, fighting to defeat monsters, rescue maidens, and save this new world from another player - a villain who has been given the exact same advantages he has. ...And a couple weeks head start.

The ultimate prize? The winner of the contest gets to become God of this new fantasy world, and reshape it however they can possibly imagine! The downside? Whichever one of them loses ceases to exist!

For Jack, a clueless, fantasy-obsessed shut-in, picking option number two wasn't hard.

Learning that being a hero takes much more than pressing buttons on a controller, and that a real fantasy world is far more dangerous than the ones in stories he loves.... well, that's something else entirely!

The first volume of Second Life is complete, at last! For those of you who are new here, welcome! I'm very glad to have you! This is a story that moves at a realistic pace, with characters who think and behave realistically. If you are looking for instant gratification and a hero who is ridiculously overpowered from the start, this might not be the story for you. But if you enjoy organic power growth and complex characters that rightfully earn what they obtain, then you should give this a read!

I found this little gem thanks to the author's proactiveness in responding to my request of western fantasy recommendations. Let this be a lesson to those who don't do it -- marketing works! The marketing professional in me aside, this is an excellent piece of literature on a platform littered with similar content that misses the mark on a ton of things I'm about to discuss: Grammar -- possibly one of the top issues with many of the stories on Webnovel. Thankfully, this novel barely has any issues. In fact, I only found 1 I could comment on in 8 chapters worth of my initial reading. Characters -- the protagonist is hilarious. He's your average guy who's seen way too much anime and manga, and the author delights in bringing him down a peg, showing him how nonsensical some of his decisions can be and that he really needs to think things through first. Frumpkin is my favorite so far. A no-nonsense version of a deity who is not here to coddle you. World -- as I'm only 8 chapters in, I haven't seen much of the world yet but the parts I have seen are typical fantasy fare, and that's fine. Some stories work best with the generic background. Better to show off how these characters interact with the background. That's the fun stuff. I'm giving this story a 5 star rating based on what I've read so far, but it doesn't mean my feelings won't change. So far, I've got 80 more chapters to enjoy or hate. We'll see. But I am looking forward to it. XD Sidebar: I really like the parallels I see in this story with my own novel, The Foolhardies. And that just means more content for me to enjoy! Great job and keep it up, Author!

When reviewing, I usually give each category one extra star to the score. That's unnecessary here. Hands down the best novel I've read in this platform. Writing Quality 5: There are some grammar errors here and there, but these are minor mistakes in face of how well it's written. The prose flows so well that at times I felt I was reading a professional author's work. It could very well be with some quick editing. Stability of Updates 5: Personally, I don't like this category, as sometimes the writer needs more time to finish up a chapter, but may end up sacrificing the quality to keep the release rate, so I always give it a 5. Story Development 5: From the title, summary and first chapters, I thought this was a parody and a comedy. While the former is absolutely true, the latter is only so at times. It doesn't hide the ugliness of what a medieval fantasy setting would look like, and the MC will have to adapt into it to survive. Throughout my reading, I would sometimes draw parallels with Sir Apropos of Nothing, despite them being quite different novels. Anyways, great story. Character Design 5: From chapter 1 there's already a great character by the name of Frumpkin Snozcumber. MC at first seems to be the classical idiot that would be the butt of the jokes, but I think it was done so to show his growth later on. And there's also the harem members who each are their own person. World Background 5: Author does a great work of painting the scene's surroundings. Details about the rest of the world are sprinkled throughout the story. Review score (5+5+5+5+5)/5 = 5 Score given (5+5+5+5+5)/5 = 5

Stupid story.......BUT also interesting and funny...the funny " things " are probably the best thing about this book...but mostly stupid....see normally in books MC has a hax that helps right...here it isnt there..the entire plot is kinda him about getting ****ed/tricked/etc....ex: take a fight scene,,,,normally MC becomes powerful and wins and gets the chick....here he is weak and loses chick...and all of the bad things that happened are linked to his previous choices....it is stupid and interesting......or take the starting....MC fights goblins and isnt scared..but later on he gets scared and does stupid decisions, such as screaming out when he sees an ally about get attacked instead of hiding.....another thing is that the dude had chance to get strong powers but wastes on BS **** like a harem of hot women....now again this " Stupid " thing is what makes this story interesting...but again at the same time its stupid.... it is however written well and executed properly....ex: the MC where behaves like a retard..makes sense why it was his first time in a dangerous moment..so it makes sense but again its annoying......the love interests aren't fast nor slow but it kinda adheres to a certain waifus?...ex: The cold chick...the loli?,,,,,and the slutty one........though must say that after chp 53 the relationships kinda moved fast....still not bad..... overall it interesting and again " Stupid ".... this is not a bash...just saying what I felt [and what I understood] ...I kinda dropped it in the 62 chp...it wasnt my " Taste ".....but it is interesting.....plus kudos to the author,,,though dudes chps are short....

This novel is one heck of a hidden gem. The author does a great job of telling a fluid and realistic story. I just absolutely loved the characters and world building. I really recommend reading this novel.

This was an amazing story the characters have so much depth it truly out did most other books in that regard and the way the characters were introduced the fact that mc isn't all powerful or a genius but a regular guy who learned by making mistakes and pushing himself I hope for a bit more fleshing out of the world but considering how there was constantly something going on with mc I I understand why he couldn't figure out more about the world

I haven't read it. But 5 stars just because the author would keep the chapters free and it seems like a great novel.

Definitely a hidden gem. There were more hilarious moments than I expected and I very much anticipate how the story is going to develop. Keep up the good work!

Characters is great, it's pretty lifelike with all of their conversations going on. Writing is nice, author knows how to write the story flow decently. For story development, the author used classic story development where the mc got thrown into fantasy world with cheat of his own, very classic but there's a lot of others novels who does that too, so it's mainstream. As I'm still at chapter 11 and yet read more chapters, I've yet known about the world backgrounds of that world so far, but I does believe author would know how to do it with how he write this story in classic way of Japan webnovels. As for updating stability, I've no comments for that, haha, I think it's good enough. Personal opinion : tbh, I don't really like with how the mc is no brainer, like he got three wishes that he can do everything he wants but he instead asking for something that's pretty much not even have to think about and don't even consider or explore his options more. I know that the God isn't a patient one and the mc have to decide quickly but that's still kinda off in my point of view. He might as well can ask that he's the king of the world in just one that wish and by then, he would already have all the powers and moneys for himself, but then again, king have a many jobs to do but most of kings in classic fantasy novels always giving their responsibilities and jobs to their Prime Minister ( a good way or plot to use for treason or rebellions later on) . And as for a group of harems? Why not asking to be the most handsome man in that world? With that he would be able to sleep with as many woman's as he wants and not restricted to his group of harems only. That's all I guess, haha sorry if it was too long, nice work author, keep it up Btw, I make a story too and it would be kind of u if u can check it out and give some reviews and stars in there too 😊 My story : https://dynamic.webnovel.com/book/14901475106138705
